Fulton County commission chair calls ongoing baseless 2020 election claims ‘annoying and frustrating’

By LaShawn Hudson, WABE

It’s quite the never-ending story, and that’s why Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Robb Pitts is anticipating and preparing for more targeted actions under the Trump administration related to the 2020 presidential election outcome.

This comes most recently in the aftermath of Pitts receiving arrest warning calls, the FBI raid on Fulton County’s election office, and new calls from Republican state Sen. Greg Dolezal for the Georgia State Election Board to take over Fulton County’s elections.

For more than six years, since the 2020 presidential election, President Donald Trump has falsely claimed there was voter fraud and election interference, specifically in Georgia’s most populous area, Fulton County.

On Jan. 28, 2026, the FBI seized more than 700 boxes of 2020 election records from Fulton County. To this day, Chairman Pitts says he still does not know where the feds are storing those documents, if they’re being altered, or if they’ll ever be returned. In response to the federal raid, Fulton County filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice, seeking the return of the seized documents. The county also requested the unsealing of the warrant affidavit used by the FBI to seize the documents. Last week, a federal court unsealed the warrant affidavit. The document supports already disproven claims of election fraud in Fulton County.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Chairman Pitts talked with host Rose Scott about the timeline of events before and after the raid. He also shared his thoughts about the unsealed warrant affidavit and what he believes this situation in Georgia could mean for the election process in other states.
